Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are stem cells derived from the mesodermal germ layer (ie. the germ layer responsible for the musculoskeletal system, including bone, tendon, ligament, cartilage, and muscle). The two main sources of these MSCs is our bone marrow and adipose tissue (fat). After harvesting these cells, we use a centrifugation process to concentrate the MSCs before injecting them back at the site of injury. Not only do these cells possess potent anti-inflammatory capability, but they are also responsible for the regeneration of tissue.
